Cumhuriyet Newspaper established its goals with the pen of its founder, Yunus Nadi, in its first issue published on May 7, 1924. Cumhuriyet is neither a government nor a party newspaper. Cumhuriyet is solely the advocate of the Republic, using scientific and widespread narration to defend democracy. Cumhuriyet will fight against any force that tries to undermine the ideas and principles of democracy. It will work with all its existence to establish a real democracy in our country. Cumhuriyet will make efforts towards enlightenment by breaking the shackles of narrow-mindedness with the spirit of Atatürk's revolutions and principles, with the independence of reason from dogma and the society's adoption of the principle of secularism. Cumhuriyet adopts the 'Universal Declaration of Human Rights' as the universal constitution of democracy and considers that its goals can only be achieved within the framework of the independence and integrity of the Republic of Turkey founded by Atatürk. Yunus Nadi is the founder of Cumhuriyet Newspaper, and Nadir Nadi institutionalized it. After Yunus Nadi's death, Nadir Nadi successfully managed and institutionalized Cumhuriyet Newspaper without making any concessions in the face of all kinds of difficulties for half a century. On August 20, 1991, he passed away. The identity, principles, and goals of Cumhuriyet, which were determined and deeply rooted in society during this long period, have become an obligation towards the Republic of Turkey, society, and Cumhuriyet readers. Cumhuriyet Foundation was also established to fulfill this purpose.
